I'm dying to blog about something. I have so much randomness though that I'm afraid to even start. I think not having friends to talk to on a regular basis (read: daily) causes the trivial stuff to build up in my mind and squeeze out the more authentic thoughts.

So, in an effort to weed through the trivial, here's a quick list of it. Hopefully some better thoughts will then rise to the surface.

  • The French don't sleep with a sheet covering them. They just sleep with a big blanket-bedspread-duvet thing. Fitted sheets are no problem to find. Cover sheets, not a chance.
  • They also sleep with square pillows only (picture what Americans call the 'Euro Pillow'). I have found some rectangular pillows but they are not common and they are pretty expensive. I can't believe actually how expensive they are! I mean, Target, Wal-Mart, even Kohl's or places like that have a standard pillow for $15-20 right? 40 Euros plus here for a standard. Yikes.
  • I might have found a honest to goodness fabric/craft store in Nice. I cannot tell you how thrilled this makes me. It is impossible to find things to make crafts with. It's painful. I'll hopefully report back good news when I find the time to catch a bus over to the ends of the earth to see this store. I really, really, really hope it's worth the effort.
  • Trying to put Evie on a routine finally. Went great for the a.m., then she was content only eating like 1-2oz the rest of today. So frustrating. But she's happy so I really can't complain. Oh babies...
  • I have no idea where I'm going to live in 8 months. Or 12 months. This bothers me less than it would have a few years ago, but I'm still really curious. And ready to have a plan.
  • Found a great resource for women like me. Women of the Harvest online magazine. Check it out. Really.
  • Henry is still not pooping on the potty and I am really tired of wiping his big butt. Ugh.
  • Bored.
Okay, now Evie's crying so I'll stop for now. Maybe later there will be something of worth for my three reading friends!

  1. We lived in Denmark when I was 13 and I learned then the joys of only having a duvet. I actually started making my bed every morning, lol, it was so easy! So from 13-29 I lived back in the US and only ever had fitted sheets and duvets on my bed, even in summer. Loved it. Got married to a German and he loves that I hate sheets and blankets, LOL! Now I live in Germany and shipped my American pillow with me =)

Ikea has cheap 'american' style pillows FYI!

=P going to have to Skype you sometime soon!

  2. The sleeping arrangements here are weird huh? Who would have thought that two countries (continents?) so similar could have such different ideas about bedding. Many times I've been at hotels, other peoples' apartments, etc and found myself digging through the bed looking for the top sheet. And I've stuffed more than a few square pillows in rectangle cases, or put two pillow cases on either end of a giant tube pillow that spans the width of the bed. Sorry France, but I need my sheet, and your beds are short enough already without giving up headroom to a giant square pillow!
